Alice Ripley Leads February Master Classes in Montreal

ALICE-RIPLEY-gives-master-class-in-Montreal-in-February-2012-20010101

American Actress Alice Ripley will give a musical theatre master class in Montreal in February.

MASTER CLASS A MONTREAL, the organization behind the workshop, had been wanting to invite Ripley for a long time. They promote musical theatre in all its forms in Montreal and the province of Quebec. More on masterclassamontreal.com

The three-day workshop will take place on Feb. 24-25-26, and the 12 lucky participants will have a chance to work one on one with Ripley.

Alice Ripley won critical acclaim and the 2009 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Diana Goodman in the Pulitzer Prize winning Next to Normal.  Alice also received Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations for her work in Next to Normal Off-Broadway (Second Stage) and a Helen Hayes Award for N2N at Arena Stage in Washington, DC.

Ms. Ripley received Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations for her
work as conjoined twin Violet Hilton in the cult hit Side Show.  On Broadway, Alice also created the
roles of Janet in The Rocky Horror Show, Molly Ivors in the Tony Award
winning musical play James Joyce’s the Dead, Betty Schaefer in Sunset
Boulevard, the Specialist’s Assistant in The Who’s Tommy, and Bathsheba in King David, as well as having a long stay at the Imperial Theatre as Fantine in Les Miserables.

Most recently, Ms. Ripley was seen Off-Broadway in the debut of Thomas Higgins’ play Wild Animals You Should Know at MCC’s Lucille Lortel Theatre.  Previously Off-Broadway,  she was seen in Five Flights with the Rattlestick Theatre Company, The Vagina Monologues at The Westside Theatre, as Daisy Mae in Li’l Abner with City Center Encores!, and as
Nelly Bly in Cather County at Playwrights Horizons.

In 2002 she played to rave reviews and shoulder-to-shoulder audiences in the John F. Kennedy Center’s production of Company, as part of the Center’s landmark Sondheim Festival.  Ms. Ripley’s performance stopped the show with applause, and she received a Helen Hayes nomination for her hilarious turn as Amy, the reluctant bride.  She then
starred in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s one woman tour-de-force Tell Me on a Sunday, also at the
Kennedy Center, and in Ken Ludwig’s slapstick comedy Shakespeare in Hollywood at the Arena Stage. Alice received Helen Hayes nominations for her work in both productions.

She will be seen in the upcoming series Modern Love for Lifetime Television and she has a starring role in the upcoming feature film Isn’t It Delicious.

Alice is an accomplished musician and has written a hundred songs and records and performs regularly with her band RIPLEY.

Ripley recordings include Daily Practice vol 1 (released Feb 2011), Everything’s Fine, Outtasite and Ripley EP.
