Washboard Jungle, the greatest post-modern jug band you’ve never heard of, lurched into existence in the dark recesses of ABC No Rio in 1989 and began a longstanding relationship with Dixon Place later that year. Equal parts folkie inauthenticity, wannabe rock stardom, low-budget performance art, and Borscht Belt humor, the band became known for pulling out every conceivable stop and making hay out of the resulting pratfalls. The process of packaging their onstage antics as “music” has always been a challenge to them, and their third CD, “Sunnyland,” has been four creatively tumultuous years in the making. It includes comic and serious originals as well as their usual (mis)treatment of classics ranging from Donovan to the Ramones. Set your alarm for a hilarious evening as Bob Goldberg (keyboards, etc.), Henry Hample (fiddle, etc.), McPaul Smith (bass, etc.), and Stuart Cameron Vance (guitar, etc.) converge for their only appearance this year.
