Buyer & Cellar is a one-man comedy play written by Jonathan Tolins. It premiered in 2013 and quickly gained critical acclaim for its humor and unique premise.
Alex More, a struggling actor, lands a peculiar job managing a meticulously recreated mall in the basement of Barbra Streisand's Malibu home. As Alex familiarizes himself with the collection of memorabilia and caters to the celebrity's occasional visits, an unexpected friendship develops, blurring the lines between fame and normalcy.
The entire play is performed by a single actor, who portrays Alex More and also embodies the voice and mannerisms of the unseen celebrity. Buyer & Cellar was praised for its witty dialogue, insightful exploration of fame and isolation, and the strong central performance. The play garnered awards like the Clarence Derwent Award and a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Performance.
