Welcome Jeffrey Siegel, a masterful “pianist who literally overflows with music” (BerlinDie
Welt) back to the Merchant Hall stage for the return of his Keyboard Conversations® with a
program featuring Impromptus that are among the most popular and beloved in the piano
repertoire. Discover the ingenuity and charm of these lyric dramas in single acts known as
impromptus. In Glorious Impromptus of Chopin and Schubert, Siegel invites you into the
industrious and inventive 19 th century to discover these succinct compositions that create an
illusion of spontaneity and improvisation. Hear the backstory to these short, one-act wonders and
then enjoy Siegel’s performance of the full works including Chopin’s beloved Fantaisie-
Impromptu, Op. 66 and his scintillating Impromptu in A-flat major, Op. 29, as well as Schubert’s
demonic Impromptu in F minor and his heavenly Impromptu in A-flat major, both from Op. 142.
“Siegel's programs strengthen the fragile bonds of communication between composer and
listener and are as welcome as they are rare” (Chicago Tribune). This performance
concludes with a Q&A session with the audience.
Ages: This performance is appropriate for all ages.
