The Reservoir, which spans 106 acres, was originally surrounded by a beautiful wrought-iron fence, but in 1926 it was replaced with a high chain-link barrier—blocking views of the cityscape. In 2003, the Central Park Conservancy removed the chain-link enclosure and rebuilt the 8,170-foot-long fence to echo its original design.
