SHIFT + SPACE | UP IN THE MANGO TREES BY BRITNY VIRGINIA Friday 28th June 7.30pm - 8.45pm and Saturday 29th June 7.30pm - 8.45pm Tas’xi life revolves around college, MaMae’s stall and observing the streets of Passae Valley known as Smelly Valley where she grew up. She sees how the hooding's rule the roads, how sex is forcibly sold for mere portion of daily bread, and lack of governmental support, she hopes to make a change somehow, but for a disabled woman in the Caribbean that is nothing more than a dream. But when Michael steps in, that dream seems a little bit more tangible. As they fire remarks towards each other, he pushes her to see her true potential. And with the help of her fierce MaMae and secure faith, Tas’xi takes the stage but not without many hurdles along the way. Born with Cerebral Palsy, Britny uses her passion for the arts and her own lived experience to ensue confidence in others who have similar experiences as herself. Her work centres around disability, culture and faith. She has worked with the likes of Graeae Theatre Company, St. Lucia Youth Development and Sports, Greenwich Docklands International Festival, and Theatre Peckham to name a few. She has just completed the production of her short film 'Dancing Shoes'. She hopes to change the world one story at a time.
